University of Alaska - External Careers is Hiring an Aircraft Maintenance Technician Near Anchorage, AK

The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) Aviation Technology Division invites applications for an aviation maintenance position for the Aviation Technology Flight School. As a mechanic in the Aviation Technology Division you will be responsible for performing the duties of an FAA-certificated Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic conducting required maintenance & preventative maintenance of UAA Flight Training Aircraft including 50-hour inspections, 100-hour inspections, annual, and phase inspections. This position is responsible for debriefing pilots concerning any aircraft malfunction. Running and taxiing aircraft under power, troubleshooting, diagnosing, and performing unscheduled maintenance on assigned aircraft. Additionally, you will perform the full range of repair and testing of aircraft systems, assemblies and surfaces, determining if aircraft components require repair, replacement or re-calibration, and requesting parts and conducting repairs as required.

As an A&P in the Aviation Technology Division you will exercise mechanic privileges to return aircraft to service, provide technical assistance to other UAA aviation maintenance technicians, perform inspections on UAA aircraft for continued airworthiness using methods, techniques, and practices that adhere to the Title 14 Code of Federal Aviation Regulations (CFRs) and UAA's Flight Operations Maintenance Policy. You will be responsible for aircraft maintenance record entries and maintenance records to ensure aircraft are in a condition for safe operation, as required by Title 14 CFRs. Evaluate and report on vendor or contract maintenance activities to the Director of Aircraft Maintenance (DOM). Maintain professional currency regarding Title 14 CFR updates and changes, maintenance procedures and techniques, airworthiness directives (ADs), advisory publications, aircraft manufacturer's publications and industry developments.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school graduate or equivalent.
Valid FAA Mechanic Certificate with Airframe and Powerplant ratings.
Valid driver's license (must meet and maintain UA safe driver verification criteria).

4 years progressive experience working in a general aviation maintenance career field is preferred.
Skilled in maintenance practices and inspection procedures, and broad knowledge of Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations, specifically parts 39, 43, 91, 135, 141, and other applicable requirements for a flight training school is preferred.
Valid FAA Inspection Authority is preferred.

Position Details:

This position is located on the Aviation Technology Complex on Merrill Field Airport, approximately two miles north of UAA's main campus in Anchorage, AK. This is a full-time, term-funded, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 79 (minimum $37.16/hour; minimum $41.50/hour if have valid Inspection Authority), based on education and experience.
